our local tap water is rather unpleasant - I change the filters every 6 months - use the filtered water for coffee, tea, water bottles (even the cats we have prefer "the fridge water")

These are good filters. They are easy to install and don't leak. I hope the manufacturer will consider improving the filters with an eye toward enhancing the filtered water's taste. Can something be done to make the filtered water taste more crisp and clean?
