    REFRIGERATOR SIZES

Refrigerator sizes fall within three main widths, but other dimensions are also available for specific kitchen layouts and lifestyles. At Bouché Appliances, we carry fridges in all sizes across French door, side by side, bottom freezer styles and more, plus specialty refrigerators for your unique needs. Explore all refrigerator sizes from leading brands like GE, Whirlpool, LG, KitchenAid, and more.

Most full-size refrigerators come in a handful of widths. Tap a width to see every full-size fridge made to fit.

    REFRIGERATOR SIZES VS. CAPACITY

Width tells you whether a fridge fits. Capacity, in cubic feet, tells you how much it holds, and style changes that as much as width does. The highlighted width is the most common one for each style.

    REFRIGERATOR DIMENSIONS

Width is only one of three numbers. Height and depth are also refrigerator dimensions buyers need to keep in mind.

    • WRefrigerator WidthMeasure the opening at its narrowest point, between cabinets or walls. Refrigerators are built slightly narrower than the opening they are sold for.
    • HRefrigerator HeightMeasure from the floor to the underside of the cabinet above, and leave an inch at the top for air. Most full-size refrigerators measure between 66 to 70 inches tall.
    • DRefrigerator DepthMeasure from the wall to the front edge of the counter. Be sure to add the doors and handles to the overall depth, including overall fridge depth with the door fully open.
    • Standard Depth RefrigeratorsAbout 31 to 36 inches deep with the doors. These fridges offer most room inside (aside from luxury models).
    • Counter Depth RefrigeratorsBetween 24 and 30 inches deep without the doors, virtually parallel with standard counter depths. These have less capacity but provide a pseudo built-in look.
    • Built-in RefrigeratorsSit flush with cabinetry around 24" deep. Many models require a finished panel (sold separately) and professional installation.

Small kitchen, studio or second fridge? These are the fridge sizes that fit where a 36 inch refrigerator will not.

    FRIDGE SIZE QUESTIONS

What is the standard refrigerator size?

The standard refrigerator size is about 36 inches wide, 70 inches tall and 30 to 36 inches deep, and 30 and 33 inch widths are also common. At Bouché Appliances, 36 inches is the most common width in French door, side-by-side, counter depth and built-in refrigerators.

What size is a 30” refrigerator?

A 30” refrigerator is 30 inches wide, made for older kitchens, apartments and narrower openings. Top freezer and bottom freezer models are the usual choice at this width, with most top freezer models here at 28 or 30 inches. There are also 30 inch French door refrigerators and 30 inch built-in columns.

Who should buy a 33” refrigerator?

A 33” refrigerator suits a kitchen built around a 33 inch opening, and anyone replacing a fridge of that width. It provides more room than a 30 inch fridge without requiring cabinet modifications. At Bouche, 33 inch width fridges are available in French door, side-by-side, top freezer and bottom freezer styles.

Is a 36” refrigerator the most common size?

Yes. A 36” refrigerator is the most common full-size width in new and remodeled kitchens, and it is the most common width in the French door refrigerators here. A 36 inch model usually holds about 20 to 29 cubic feet, depending on style and depth, and comes in standard depth and counter depth versions.

    Who needs a 42” refrigerator?

A 42” refrigerator is for a large kitchen or a luxury remodel with a wide built-in opening. At this width you are mostly looking at built-in refrigerators and side-by-side models, many of them panel-ready so they disappear into the cabinetry. Plan the opening with the cabinet maker before you order.

How big is a 48” refrigerator?

A 48” refrigerator is 48 inches wide, the largest single-unit width most homes install, and usually a built-in or professional-style side-by-side or French door. At Bouche, side-by-side and built-in models both come in 48 inch widths. For even more room, many buyers pair two column refrigerators instead.

What is an apartment size refrigerator?

An apartment size refrigerator is usually 24 to 28 inches wide, narrow enough for a small kitchen but still full height. Top freezer refrigerators are the classic choice, and 24 and 28 inch counter depth models fit where cabinets are shallow too. For a studio or office, a compact refrigerator may be all you need.

How do fridge sizes relate to capacity?

Fridge sizes are measured in two distinct metrics. Refrigerator capacity, in cubic feet, is the space inside. Style and depth change capacity as much as width does: counter depth refrigerators average about 24 cubic feet, while freestanding models reach can exceed 30 cubic feet of fridge capacity.

How do I measure refrigerator dimensions?

Measure refrigerator dimensions by the cutout you have in your home. Measure the width at the narrowest point, the height from the floor to the underside of any overead cabinets, and depth from the wall to the front of the counter. Add the door handles to the depth and leave room for the doors to swing open. Take your measurements twice before you order, and check them against the model's spec sheet.

What is the difference between counter depth and standard depth fridge?

A counter depth refrigerator is about 24 to 30 inches deep without the doors, sitting nearly flush with countertops. A standard depth model sticks out several inches more and holds more.

Refrigerator Sizes, ExplainedFit the Opening, Then Fill It

Refrigerator sizes start with the opening you already have. Most kitchens are built around a 30, 33 or 36 inch space, so replacing a fridge is usually a matter of matching the width and then choosing the style and capacity that suit how you shop and cook.

    French Door and Side-by-Side Fridges

French door refrigerators give the widest fresh-food shelves, and side-by-side models need less room for the doors to swing. Both are at their most common at 36 inches here.

    Counter Depth and Built-In Refrigerators

Counter depth models trade a few cubic feet for a flush look; built-in refrigerators go further and disappear into the cabinets. Explore built-in refrigerators from ZLINE, Miele, Fisher & Paykel, Thermador, Liebherr and more.

    Small Spaces and Second Fridges

Top freezer, compact and under-counter refrigerators cover apartments, offices, bars and basements, and refrigerator drawers add a cold zone to an island. On the compact refrigerator side you will find Summit, Accucold, Smeg, Avanti, Danby and more.
